Boys & Girls Clubs of Massillon
Aretha Franklin isn’t the only one who wants respect. We all do. And, providing that respect, along with a safe environment, positive adult influence and fun activity, is the underlying mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Massillon. Adding an arts component to their already vast array of experiences was something that the kids wanted and the administrators wanted to provide.
And they both got their wishes. Over a six-week period, about 180 club members received fine arts instruction during the school year and 120 club members received 3 weeks of summer training. All coursework was taught by a professional trained in working with youth as well as his/her degree in the various aspects of fine arts training. After the sessions, the work was moved to a public display at the Massillon Museum. From there, some pieces were selected to move onto the regional Fine Arts Exhibit of the Boys and Girls Clubs, a national exhibit in Orlando, Florida.
Who won? Everyone.
